Who we are
We are a Masonic Lodge based in Belfast. Our Lodge is called Temple Masonic Lodge 51, and we’re part of Freemasonry under the Grand Lodge of Ireland. You can find us here: https://belfastmasonry.com. This website is operated by members of Temple Masonic Lodge 51.
What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you have an account and you log in to this site, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.

Contact form and email enquiries
When you fill in our contact form, the data is sent directly to our email account, [email protected]. We do not store this data on this website, it’s sent directly to this email address. Such emails received from our contact forms and/or by directly emailing us, will be stored for a period of 3 years. This is so that we can refer to them for legal reasons. Our email inbox will only be accessed by members of Temple 51 Masonic Lodge, and only those members who operate the website.
By submitting a contact form to us, you grant us permission to contact you.
If there’s any data you do not want us to have, please do not include them in any contact form submissions or any emails that you send us.
Joining our Lodge
Joining Enquiries:
We’re always looking for new members. If you request to join our Lodge by using our Joining Form, we may ask you to provide your Email Address, Phone number, Age and your general location. After this initial contact, we will aim to meet you face to face, should you be interested in taking your application further. This is purely voluntary and informal, and no data will be stored from these meetings.
Deciding to Join:
Should you be accepted to join, we may require further data from you, including your Name, Date of Birth, Full Address and Occupation to process your application. This data will be stored by Temple 51 Masonic Lodge, and will not be stored online. In order to process your application, we will share these details with relevant Masonic Bodies, who oversee all entrance into Freemasonry. To process your application, your data will be shared with the Provincial Grand Lodge of Antrim, who oversee all Masonic Lodges in the Province of Antrim.
As a member
Once you have been accepted to join our Masonic Lodge, your personal data (including Name, Address, Date of Birth, Age and Occupation) will be shared with the Grand Lodge of Ireland, who oversee all Masonic Lodges in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Temple 51 Masonic Lodge will store your data, including personal details, as long as you are a member. Should for any reason you leave Freemasonry, you can request for the erasure of all the data we hold for you, except that which we must keep for legal reasons.
Deciding not to join
Should you decide that, after enquiring, you do not want to proceed with your application, we will delete all email correspondence from you after 12 months.
Transferring your data to another Masonic Lodge
If for any reason, e.g. we have too many applications, we may send forward your email or contact form submission including that data you have included to another Masonic Lodge, within Northern Ireland. We will ask your consent before doing this. After we have forwarded your email to another Masonic Lodge, any data that you choose provide that Masonic Lodge will not our responsibility as we will not be handling or storing such data. We will not be responsible for any interaction between you and this Masonic Lodge that we have referred you to. We will delete your emails from our inbox after 12 months.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
If you become or are a member of Temple 51 Lodge, we will retain your personal data, including all email correspondence you send us, so long as you are a member.
If you have applied to join Temple 51 Lodge via email or the website contact form, and decide that you do not wish to join, we will delete all email correspondence from you after 12 months.
Transferring your details to third parties
We may share your personal details, including Name, age, occupation and contact details, with other Masonic Lodges in Belfast or Northern Ireland. As an additional protection for you, we will always ask your permission before we do this. For example, if you want to join Freemasonry, we may send your details to another Masonic Lodge in Belfast who will then be in contact with you.
Once we have transferred your details to another Masonic Lodge, we will no longer be responsible for how that Lodge deals with your data.
We will never share your data with non-masonic entities and we will not share your data with Lodges that are not within Northern Ireland.
If, after enquiring, you decide to join Temple 51 Masonic Lodge, we will share your details with relevant Masonic governing bodies, including the Provincial Grand Lodge of Antrim and the Grand Lodge of Ireland. We will never share your details with non-Masonic bodies.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
